Top 10 Best Movies of 2017

And the year is over. 2017 was an odd year for movies, lots of sequels, remakes, reboots, and more, however thinking back on it, there were quite a few fantastic movies that were released. Here is my top 10 best movies of 2017. Keep in mind, there were a few I didn't get an opportunity to see, such as Thor: Ragnarock, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the Disaster Artist, so this is all of the ones I have seen. For some reason, the bottom 5 were harder to rank than the top 5, but that speaks volumes for the quality of the first set of films, not that they aren't all excellent.

10. Spider-Man: Homecoming

One of the best superhero movies that have come out in the last few years. With the market oversaturated with superhero movies, it was nice to see one that stood separate from the others. It helps that Spider-Man is one of my favorite superheroes. While Iron Man plays a huge part in this movie, the story is about Peter Parker, one of the more believable portrayals as opposed to the other films.

9. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

This movie was a significant improvement on "On Stranger Tides". I love all of the Pirates movies, and this one was super enjoyable and a return to form for the series. Captain Jack and his slapstick antics are back for a great experience.

8. Blade Runner 2049

I'd watched the first film a few times, and while it was by no means a bad film, it just wasn't exactly my cup of tea. I've grown to appreciate it too the more I watch it, and this film is no exception. One of the biggest stars of the previous generation combined with one of the biggest stars of this generation combines for an electrifying and enjoyable movie.

7. Get Out

This was one I never thought I'd be interested in seeing, just because it the story didn't pull me in. I'm super glad I gave this movie a shot, because of the amazing hidden meanings behind so many things in this movie. Jordan Peele's directorial debut was a hit, and I look forward to his next project.

6. Kingsman: The Golden Circle

At first, I was sort of disappointed with this movie, because I overhyped it. However, after rewatching it a few more times, I can come to appreciate this movie more than I initially had. I still love the first one more, but this is a solid sequel to a superb movie.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

It's hard to determine if the first or the second is better, but one thing is for sure, both of these movies are fantastic. The soundtrack is one of the most remarkable things about these films, and the characters are made to look like douchebags, but you can't help but love them.

4. It

I was skeptical when I heard there was going to be a remake of It, but it did not disappoint. This is horror done right, it wasn't overfilled with jump scares, and presented a real sense of dread. Absolutely give "It" a try.

3. 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

This movie was amazing in every way. It had it all, solid character progression, a story that was never predictable, and it kept you wanting until the very end. One that deserves all the praise it gets, Mcdonagh is quickly becoming one of my favorite screenwriters.

2. Baby Driver

This was one that somewhat surprised me, because as I stated in my review I was skeptical at first, however Edgar Wright can do no wrong. The man proves time and time again why he is so amazing at filmmaking. Worth several watches to try and catch all the little easter eggs.

1. John Wick: Chapter 2

This movie was everything I was hoping it would be in a sequel to one of the greatest action movies of the last decade, if not one of the best ever. Unlike Kingsman 2, this one I hyped up and was not disappointed and felt it improved volumes on the first one. One that made my top 10 favorites of all time list, and deservedly so. I cannot wait until the third and most likely final chapter comes out. I didn't even hesitate when thinking of this being my favorite movie of the year.
