Spider-Man Far From Home Review

I've needed a break from Marvel movies for awhile because the market was oversaturated with them, but I return in good company.

Story- First off, spoilers for anyone who didn't seen Avengers Endgame, or if you didn't read the synopsis like me. The movie starts off with a memorialized broadcast of the high school news where Peter goes to school about the Avengers, and the mood is infused with Whitney Houston to make for a silly and touching scene. Peter is on his way to Europe for a class field trip/ getaway from superhero life for a bit, given that he just kinda helped save the galaxy from Thanos.

Cinematography/Props/Editing- I think this part was pretty solid overall. The cinematography showcased some of the unique locations in Europe. One person I follow said they didn't show nearly enough, but I'm not sure where I sit on that thought. The editing wasn't all choppy which, going back with some of the other marvel movies, is very welcome because that is prevalent in some other marvel movies.

Acting- Starting off with what I didnt like, I thought the teachers were just forced in comic relief, much like I thought of Ned in the first movie, and to an extent in this one too. Zendaya's character was much more developed in this movie and wasnt just "hey this girl is weird and super dark" which means they learned how to write a bit better. And Jake Gyllenhaal? Do I even need to say? Dude's on my top actors list for a reason, he's just so captivating. Tom. Holland. He's just awesome and a fun actor and I feel like he'd be such a chill dude to hang out with. Plus he was in a video game commercial with Hannibal Burress so clearly he has taste. I already know he's gonna be cast in everything soon.

Directing- I didn't realize Jon Watts, who directed Homecoming, also directed this one too. I suppose the huge success that was Homecoming they would bring the director back, much like they did with Guardians or Avengers and their sequels. I think he does a pretty good job, there were a few really cool scenes he constructed as well. Nothing too drastically different from the first, but still a fun vibe about the whole movie.

Soundtrack/Audio- The soundtrack was very interesting. They used a ton of different songs that topped off specific situations, like a romantic italian sung ballad or the standard marvel fare of action music composition, but it was fun. The fact that it was topped off by a Ramones song kinda puts the icing on the European cake.

Final Verdict- A-. I think if they took a few more risks, this movie could've been exceptional. It was still a very enjoyable movie that honestly I never really felt like checking my watch because it was feeling too long, which I didn't even think about until now so that's a very positive thing to attribute to this movie.
